“Mature Inspirations” ART EXHIBIT
The New Hartford Senior Center presents “Mature Inspirations” an art exhibit displaying the talent of seniors, all members of the Wednesday Art Workshop. The exhibition is available for viewing until January 9th and is located on the 3rd floor of the New Hartford Town Hall. Select pieces will be available for purchase.
The well-known philosopher Aristotle said “the aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” Art is the means of expressing emotions and portraying ideas, and has even been considered a window to the soul. It is well known that viewing or engaging in creating art encourages one to venture outward, to broaden their horizons and to be inspired as well as helping people remain active, engaged and involved.
“I think the gallery wall of art is dramatic, especially at certain times of the day when the beautiful light from the large windows in the space reflects on the talent of our seniors ” Jean Barnicoat, Director said commenting on the large partition in the foyer lobby that is used to display the art works. “Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate years of artistic contributions from our talented seniors” she added. The exhibit is an impressive collection of varying themes, styles, inspirations and methods used by the artists and a must see for the holiday season. The many works creatively stretch from vulnerability to beauty to strength as well as spiritual themes. Each project varies from student to student, with each pursuing their individual interest.
“It’s absolutely beautiful, and it’s stunning to see what other students have done, as well,” Carol, one art member said. “This brought us all together, and I think we’re all really proud of each other and what we’ve accomplished.”
The NHSC art group practices the “there is no right or wrong way of doing art” attitude …and seeks to support each member while enjoying the adventure of creation as the top priority. All are invited to join the group on Wednesday afternoons and for details contact Jean Barnicoat, Director at 860.379.3980
Looking forward to visiting the exhibit. New Hartford; Small Town, Big Ideas!
