Hello,
I am pleased to see this website to help promote the other side of the story and to try and dispel the mistruths coming from the group opposing football practice at BPS. I have been appalled at the actions of NH+; they are using their website as a pulpit for disseminating half-truths and their personal opinions. They are also using this medium and control of their website to shut out any opposing views.
My family moved to this town a few years ago. One of the criteria for choosing where to live was that it must have a football/cheerleading program. My son and daughter have grown immensely from being part of a team and the hard work required. The skills they are learning are invaluable and I have see their character and integrity grown as a result. I always marvel at how focused and happy my son seems in all areas of his life, including school, during football season. I have had my misgivings about the sport in the past but seeing the value it brings to my children’s well being, I am now a major supporter of this program.
I find it ironic that when we play at other towns they have full fields (sometimes mulitple) and obviously full support of the town. Yet, we are having a difficult time finding a place to practice and, because of a few very vocal residents, we could soon have absolutely no place to play! I think the ruts in the field incident that became intergalactic was the last straw. I live down the street from BPS and walk their regularly. It is a beautiful spot and it is a beautiful place to practice football. The enviormental footprint is miniscule or nonexistent and I pride my self on being an environmentalist.
Be that as it may, the entire controversy is the epitomy of small town politics gone awry. We must fight this insanity. My family will be at the meeting this week and will write letters, etc. What else are we doing? One thing that should be done immediately is to raise the visibility of this site. I am sharing articles on my facebook page. Others should also do so. Does this site have a facebook fan page? I think it should. Also, it should be linked from any other town web sites. Let’s get the word out and social media is the way to do it online!
For those of you on the sidelines, now is the time to step up and show your support!! If you aren’t involved in football/cheerleading, think about the issue and what you think is best for this town. We love New Hartford and we should all want it to stay an inclusive, rationale and well rounded place to live.
Thank you Heather! I took your suggestion and added a “Like” button on the right hand side. We started a facebook page on Thursday, so there isn’t much there yet.
We really appreciate your comments and support!
When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox
and now each time a comment is added I get three emails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove people from that service?
Bless you!
I would look for an unsubscribe section in the emails you get. I don’t know how to do that from here. Otherwise, your initial comment may give you the option to uncheck it? Good luck!
